You may have not heard this before – but popcorn is kind of a big deal. Not just because it’s delicious, but it’s recently been found to actually be good for your health.

If you’re craving a crunchy, healthy snack, throw out those chips and cookies and look no further than a bag of microwavable popcorn. Recent studies have revealed the multiple health benefits of this delicious snack. Whole grains, fiber and antioxidants are contained this simple snack.

Popcorn Facts:

  • One cup of air-popped popcorn has only 31 Calories; one cup of oil-popped popcorn has only 55 Calories, compared to 139 Calorie 1 cup of regular potato chips.
  • Popcorn is a whole grain, and whole grains are good for your health.
  • Popcorn is also high in dietary fiber; one serving of it contains more than 3 grams of dietary fiber.
  • On a weight basis; one serving of popcorn contains more antioxidants than one serving of fruits and vegetables; because popcorn doesn't have water. Despite its health benefits, popcorn cannot replace fruits and vegetables in a healthy diet because they contain other essential vitamins and minerals that are absent in popcorn

Popcorn is healthy depending on how it's prepared

Popcorn can become a nutritional nightmare once it is soaked in butter and salt. Microwave (or air popped) popcorn is healthier; it has fewer calories and less fat than oil or butter-made popcorn, without affecting its antioxidants content. You can lightly season it with salt, but watch out; excessive salting may lead to hypertension.
